OVERVIEW

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering and is called an evergreen branch because of the steady demand for mechanical engineers from the industries.

Almost all the inventions of ancient period and modern era are direct contributions of Mechanical Engineering. It caters to Automobiles, Railways, Aviation, Thermal Power Plants, Hydro Power Plants, Textile, Petroleum, Chemical, and variety of other industries. The branch involves design, study, development and construction of nearly all of the physical devices and systems.

MISSION & VISION

The Mechanical graduates of AKS University posses strong practical, scientific and engineering breadth that covers multidisciplinary subjects enabling them to comprehend, analyze mechanical engineering problems and develop solutions. Our graduates demonstrate ethical values, positive attitude, effective communication skills, teamwork and ability to relate engineering issues to broader social context.

The programme covers semester wise study involving lecture and laboratory courses. The curriculum includes courses in Machine design & drawing, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science, and Strength of material, Manufacturing Sciences as well as others applied ones like Theory of Machines, Machine Design, Refrigeration & Air conditioning, CAD, CAM, etc. Students are also made to undergo industrial training as well as projects to supplement the theoretical and practical knowledge gained during classes with live engineering problems.

The department has well-equipped laboratories. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Since mechanical engineering is an evergreen and versatile branch, the job opportunities for skilled mechanical engineers are numerous and never-ending. Mechanical engineers are required to production, research, maintenance, design, testing, installation, operation and other wide verities of industries. These professionals can find employment both in the government and private sector undertakings.

Major industries that employ mechanical engineers include automobiles, steel, cement, space research, aeronautical, energy and utilities, air conditioning, bio-mechanical industry. Other major employers include giant manufacturing plants, air conditioning and refrigeration industry, turbine manufacturing plants, oil and gas exploration and refining industries and the agricultural sector.

In the government sector, mechanical engineers can provide their knowledge to various government-run projects in the role of technical experts and consultants. They can also work in private engineering companies that provide technical consultancy to both government and corporate firms.

These engineers can also hold high managerial positions in government as well as private sector organizations according to their field of expertise and educational qualifications.

The diploma, graduate and postgraduates of the department are placed in various industries of repute such as Ceat Tyre, Tata Motors, Shree Cement, Larson & Turbo, Hindalco, JP cement, Caparo Maruti, Balco, Indian Air Force, Indian Railways etc.

The department has association with Advance Training Institute, Kanpur (U.P.). ATI is a premier institute established in by Government of India, New Delhi with the assistance from United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP ) / International Labor Organization ( ILO ) to impart training and updating the skills of Engineers / Supervisors / Technicians / Executives of Industrial personnel & faculties of educational institutions through courses of short duration conducted in modules and Tailor made courses as per the specific needs of their Industries / Govt Estt./PSUs/Technical/Institutions
